Janta Dal United (JDU) Jammu and Kashmir president G.M. Shaheen on Monday urged Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to ensure the immediate and time-bound completion of the long-pending Taper–Babareshi road project.
In a statement, Shaheen said that despite repeated assurances, the project continues to face delays due to what he described as weak monitoring and lack of accountability, causing daily hardship to local residents. He said the road is a vital link for pilgrims, tourists, traders, students and emergency services, and its incomplete condition has adversely affected mobility, economic activity and tourism in the area.
Shaheen said the Babareshi belt holds significant religious and tourism importance and that prolonged neglect of the road has eroded public confidence in governance. He called on the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to deploy additional machinery, skilled manpower and financial resources, and to ensure strict on-ground supervision with clearly defined deadlines and accountability.
Warning that continued delays would be viewed as disregard for public welfare, the JDU leader said the party would raise the issue at all appropriate democratic and administrative forums if timely action is not taken.
He stressed that infrastructure development is a basic necessity and urged authorities to translate assurances into tangible results.
