The eminent Islamic scholar, teacher of scholars, Ustad-ul-Ulama, Sheikh-ul-Hadith Hazrat Sheikh Habib Al-Umar Al-Jilani passed away during his journey from Jordan to Indonesia, returning to his Creator. His demise has cast a deep shadow of grief across the Islamic world.

Sheikh Habib Al-Umar Al-Jilani was widely recognized for his immense scholarly and spiritual contributions. Throughout his life, he remained devoted to the promotion of the Qur’an and Sunnah, dissemination of Islamic sciences, and extensive humanitarian welfare work—legacies that will continue to inspire generations. He was renowned for his mastery in Hadith, Qur’anic studies, and Tasawwuf (Sufism), and was also a distinguished jurist of the Shafi‘i school of thought. The late scholar authored several books and played a pivotal role in nurturing scholars worldwide.

Expressing deep sorrow over his passing, Chief of Karwan-e-Islami International Pir-e-Tariqat, Allama Dr. Ghulam Rasool Hami, addressed media persons after the Friday prayers at the Central Jamia Masjid Mehr Allah Zainakot, HMT. He described Sheikh Habib Al-Umar as a beacon of guidance whose spiritual light continues to shine even amid the darkness of contemporary challenges.

Allama Hami recalled that the late scholar visited Kashmir twice, where he enlightened seekers of knowledge by sharing the authentic teachings derived from the sacred legacy of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Speaking on pressing social issues, Allama Hami highlighted the alarming rise of drug abuse in Jammu and Kashmir, likening it to a “cancerous epidemic.” He urged people from all communities—irrespective of sect or religion—to unite in eradicating this menace. While appreciating the efforts of law-enforcement agencies, including the police, he emphasized that lasting success requires active participation from every individual at the grassroots level.

Referring to the significance of Mi‘raj (the Prophet’s Ascension), Allama Hami said the event symbolizes the elevation of humanity through spiritual and moral values—principles that are vital not only for Muslims but for all of humanity. He stressed that societal progress is impossible without knowledge, awareness, and skill.

He further noted that throughout history, Sufis and righteous Rishis dedicated their lives to guiding humanity toward enlightenment, leaving behind enduring examples of moral and spiritual excellence. In the present era, he said, it is a collective national responsibility to preserve and firmly embed the legacy of Awliya and righteous souls in an organized and meaningful manner.
