Handwara Police has booked a man under the POCSO Act in connection with an alleged case of intimidation, harassment, and misconduct towards a girl.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Yousuf Hajam alias Raja Ishaq, a resident of Sudergund Hangah. A case has been registered under FIR No. 82/2026 under Sections 351(2), 75, and 78 of the BNS along with Sections 8/12 of the POCSO Act.
According to reports, the accused was previously involved in a kidnapping case in 2021, in which police had recovered the girl. He had remained in judicial custody for around nine months in connection with that case.
Police sources said the latest action is aimed at protecting women and minors from blackmail, threats, misuse of relationships, and attempts of sexual harassment. Authorities reiterated that strict legal action will continue against those found involved in crimes targeting girls and women.
