‘Assembly Turned NC Headquarters’: LoP Slams Chairmanship Distribution in J&K

The tussle over House Committee chairmanships in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly has intensified, with Leader of Opposition Sunil Kumar Sharma on Thursday warning that the BJP will soon decide whether to boycott the panels over what he termed an unfair and lopsided distribution favouring the National Conference and its allies.

Sharma alleged that while the ruling alliance holding 54 MLAs was allotted eight committee chairmanships, the BJP with 29 seats received only one, calling it a violation of proportional representation and an insult to the people's mandate. He accused the Speaker of openly siding with the ruling alliance and muzzling the opposition's voice.

"The Assembly is being turned into the headquarters of the National Conference," he said.
