Nepotism in KU: Appointment of two Medical Officers kept in abeyance after Vigilance sought records

Srinagar: Days after Vigilance Organization Kashmir sought records about the appointment of medical officers in Health Centre of Kashmir University, the Deputy Registrar of the Varsity have kept the appointment orders of two medical officers in abeyance.

Sources said that Vigilance Organization Kashmir had received a complaint that a medical officer Dr Iqra Mehraj has been appointed illegally at the Health Centre of Kashmir University in May this year.

Taking cognizance of the complaint, a Vigilance team sought all the records from the University and shortly after submitting the records Deputy Registrar General Administration issued an order which reads that: “the appointment orders issued in favour of Dr Suraya Jan and Dr Iqra Jan as Medical Officers are hereby kept in abeyance.”

Inside sources told news agency CNS that the appointment of Dr Suruya was totally legal and she had been appointed as Medical Officer in 2015 while the recent appointment of Dr Iqra Jan in May this year was made on the basis of favour and nepotism.

Sources added that the incumbent Vice Chancellor Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi appointed Dr Iqra Mehraj as Medical Officer after her father who is presently Vice Chancellor Central University helped the present Kashmir University VC to appoint his choicest candidates for the posts of Dean Academic Affairs and Dean Research.

“In order to sideline the seniors and appoint his favourite candidates for the posts of Dean Academic Affairs and Dean Research, the KU Vice Chancellor in May this year constituted a committee that was chaired by VC Central University of Kashmir Prof Mehrajuddin. As chairman of the committee, he helped incumbent VC Kashmir University to sideline senior professors and appoint his choicest junior candidates. In return, the VC Kashmir University appointed her daughter as Medical Officer,” said a senior Professor.

He added that Dr Suruya became a scapegoat as she got the job in 2015 through legal means. (CNS)
