Rahul Gandhi becomes 86th President of Congress
New Delhi: The Congress party on Monday announced that Rahul Gandhi, its vice-president until now, has been elected the president of the party.
This officially ends Sonia Gandhi’s 19-year-reign of the party, the longest a person has held the president’s post.
The statement from the party read, “89 nomination papers proposing the name of Shri Rahul Gandhi for President have been received. All the nomination papers have been found valid. Since the withdrawal date/time is over and there is only one candidate, as per Article VXIII (d) of the Constitution of the Indian National Congress, I hereby declare Rahul Gandhi as President of the Indian National Congress.”
