Rain lashes Kashmir, temperature dips
Srinagar: After witnessing pleasant weather since early this morning due to bright sunshine, rain lashed Kashmir valley, including summer capital, Srinagar, this evening, resulting in dip in the mercury.
A Met department spokesperson told UNI that light rain or thundershowers would occur at isolated place during the next 24 hours in Kashmir.
After witnessing below freezing point temperature at minus 0.2 degree yesterday at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, the mercury surged and settled at 1.6 degree, still 2 notches below normal. But, the temperature again dipped due to rain in the evening.
Meanwhile, sun came out much to the delight of people in this summer capital, where mercury during the night surged and settled at 8.1 degree, against 7.6 degree recorded yesterday.
However, rain lashed Srinagar for about half-an-hour this evening, resulting in dip in the temperature.
The night temperatures at Qazigund, gateway to the Valley, Kupwara in North Kashmir and tourist resort of Kokernag also dipped and settled at 5.6 degrees, 5.6 degrees and 5.6 degrees respectively.
After witnessing marginal improvement in night temperature at world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in South Kashmir, intermittent rain in this evening, resulted in chilly weather conditions. Against 2.4 degrees recorded yesterday, the night temperature at Pahalgam was 2.6 degree.
The mercury during the night at Leh and border town of Kargil witnessed some improvement and settled at 5.1 degree and 4 degree respectively.
The spokesperson said sky will be partly cloudy in Leh, where maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 20 degree and 4 degree, respectively.
