Congress US wing lauds party effort in Karnataka

New York, May 23 :The Indian National Overseas Congress, US, has lauded the party leadership for its meticulous role played in Karnataka culminating in bringing the party, along with Janata Dal (S), to power.

At a special meeting convened in New York, the US wing of the major opposition party in India specifically lauded the leadership for taking the matter to the Supreme Court quickly and making sure that the BJP would only have less than 24 hrs to prove its majority.

‘It was unfortunate that inequitable and perhaps illegal consequences were thrust into the lap of the Congress party earlier in Goa, Manipur and Meghalaya, where legitimate rights of Congress were seized and denied,’ said Harbachan Singh, secretary general of INOC, US.

At the behest of Sam Pitroda, chairman of the overseas affairs of the party, a team comprising Mohinder Singh Gilzian, Harbachan Singh and Dayanand Naik among others was in the southern state to participate in the election-related process.
The team pooled its effort with that of K C Venegopal, Anand Sharma, Madhu Yaskhi and others who were already on the ground. George Abraham, chairman of INOC, US, had remained in constant touch with the team and provided valuable advice from the US side, according to a statement released by the party.

Mr Naik, a physician based in the New York area, worked hard for the success of the party in his hometown of Hubli-Dharwar, where party President Rahul Gandhi campaigned, the statement added.
