Wage Revision: Bank strike stands on May 30-31

‘Hyderabad/New Delhi, May 28  :Banking operations across the country will be paralysed for two days from May 30 as the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has decided to go ahead with the Nation-wide strike in view of not getting any positive development in the Conciliation meeting Convened by Chief Labour Commissioner (CLC) Jitendra Kumar Sagar in New Delhi on Monday.
The CLC has convened the meeting in his office in response to the strike notice served by UFBU on Indian Banks’ Assocation (IBA).
Representatives of IBA, Ministry of Finance and all nine bank Unions under the umbrella body of UFBU were present in the meeting.
The wage revision settlement for bank employees and officers is due from November 1, 2017.
About 10 lakh employees and officers from Public Sector banks, Private Sector Banks and Foreign Banks will take part in the strike.
The strike call comes from UFBU after the failure of bipartite talks held with Indian Banks’ Assocation (IBA) in Mumbai on May 5 where the latter offered an increase of 2 per cent over the total wage bill of the Banks as on March 31, 2017 which is rejected by the former.
All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA) General Secretary RPT General Secretary Ch Venkatachalam, who had participated in the Conciliation meeting told UNI that wage revision in the Banks is due from 1st November, 2017. The Government has been advising the IBA to conclude the Settlement before November, 2017. Unions have submitted the Charted of Demands in May, 2017 and discussions commenced with the Unions in May, 2017.
But even though several rounds of discussions have taken place in the last one year, IBA did not come forward to make any offer, the top Union leader said.
He said on May 5, 2018, in the negotiations IBA made an offer to hike the wages by 2 per cent quoting poor financial condition of the Banks as a reason.
The IBA also refused to negotiate wage revision for all the officers and to restrict the wage revision for Scale I, II and III officers and not including Scale IV to VII under the process though from 1979 wage revision for officers was covering all officers from scale I to scale VII.UNI.
