TMC takes streets to protest continuous hike of prices for petrol and diesel, transporters join

Kolkata, May 29 :A day after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee demanded that the Union government must take active action to arrest the prices of petrol and diesel with immediate
effect, ruling Trinamool Congress on Tuesday took to the streets on the issue and transporters
joined in rallies amid fresh hike of fuel cost for straight 15 days.
The price of petrol was today Rs 80.91 and diesel Rs 71.72 impacting on every product of
the essentials with actual no control of prices of commodities by any regulator.
The rising of prices of fuel has automatically affecting the prices of other essentials, including vegetables and other raw materials. Even ambulance and taxi have been charging beyond fixed
rates and the consumers have no other choice but to concede the demand.
“We are very concerned about the rising prices of petrol and diesel. This will certainly affect
prices all around. Common people, farmers and many will suffer,”Ms Banerjee said
” Fuel prices are increasing again and again. All are being badly affected: agriculture,
transport and common people are being forced to bear burden, ” Ms Banerjee had said.
” In spite of the grim situation, why isn’t the Central Govt taking any serious steps to find a
solution ? They need to act,” Ms Banerjee demanded.
The TMC’s youth leader Abishekh Banerjee today under took a day-long sit and demonstration under the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Meyo Road condemning the price rise of petrol and diesel and charged with Centre for failing to arrest it.
All India Trinamool Youth Congress chairperson Abhishek Banerjee (MP) had tweeted: “As
we witness the magic of #AccheDin on this momentous occasion, Petrol turns 80 and Diesel
turns 70. Please do send in your good wishes to their custodians for being so generous and
sincere in raising the two.”
The transporters have also threatened to join strike next month if the prices of fuel were not
rolled back. They today joined in separate rallies and decided to urged the state government
for hike of fare in buses.
