Srinagar,

Jammu Kashmir Democratic Liberation Party Chairman Hashim Qureshi has called the Pakistan’s order to give more administrative and financial autonomy to Gilgit-Baltistan as “illegal and threatening.”

In a statement, Qureshi said “it seems a British Viceroy is ruling in Gilgit-Baltistan and treating it as his colony.”

Qureshi termed the Gilgit-Baltistan is “integral part of Jammu and Kashmir whose landscape can’t be altered by Pakistan.”

“The order number 2018 will pave the way for the residents of Pakistan to buy property and seek jobs in Gilgit-Baltistan. It will prove disastrous for the local population,” Qureshi said.

He appealed to the separatist leadership and mainstream parties of Kashmir to take serious note of the development.

He also appealed that state subject status of Gilgit-Baltistan should be restored and all political prisoners including Baba Jan be released from jails.

Pakistan’s Cabinet on May 21 approved Gilgit-Baltistan Order 2018 which was also endorsed by the region’s assembly. The order gives more administrative and financial autonomy to the region. But the move is seen as Islamabad’s efforts towards incorporating the region as its fifth province.(Agencies)
