Lt Gen Ranbir Singh assumes Northern Command GOC-in-Chief charge
New Delhi, Jun 1: Lt Gen Ranbir Singh on Friday assumed the charge of General Officer Commanding (GOC)-in-Chief of Northern Army Command, succeeding Lt Gen Anbu who will take charge as Vice Chief of the Indian Army.
Lt Gen Singh was the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) when India carried out surgical strike across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir last year.
‘Lt Gen Ranbir Singh has taken over as GOC-in-Chief of Northern Command. Earlier, the General officer was DCOAS (IS&T). He has a vast command, staff and instructional experience and has served in all types of operational environment, the Indian Army said.
Lt Gen Anbu succeeds Lt Gen Sarath Chand who retired on Thursday.
The headquarters of Northern Command is based in Udhampur and is considered crucial as it looks after Army’s operations in Jammu and Kashmir besides guarding the LoC.
