MHA assess post-ceasefire situation, review security arrangements for upcoming Amarnath Yatra, Direct forces to maintain extra vigil
Srinagar, Jun 1 : Ministry of Home affairs (MHA) while directing forces to maintain extra vigil, deliberated upon the post- ceasefire situation in Jammu and Kashmir and upcoming Amarnath yatra arrangements, which are scheduled to commence from this month.
Highly placed sources told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that top brass in the Ministry of home affairs discussed the entire gamut of security situation in Jammu and Kashmir including the post ceasefire situation in the valley. “Besides reviewing the security situation, the recent attacks on security forces were discussed. Moreover the arrangements for the Shri Amarnath yatra arrangements were also discussed,” sources told KNS.
Sources said that the top brass especially those associated with the Internal Security deliberated on the series of aspects to keep security situation under control as has been done during the past two years.
According to sources, while assessing internal security situation and reports of presence of militants in the valley, the MHA has directed the forces in Jammu and Kashmir to be in high alert of any possibility of attacks.
“An advisory has already been issued to all para-military forces to maintain extraordinary vigil on their security establishments in Jammu and Kashmir including those located close to the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB), to guard against possible attack in view of the Intelligence inputs, which suggested that militant attacks can’t be ruled out,” sources said.
Sources said that the MHA also called for making all security arrangements for the Shri Amarnath pilgrimage well in advance in complete coordination with all security agencies including Army, CRPF, JKP, and others, who will be assigned the task of security arrangements for Amarnath yatra.
Sources said that the MHA wants multiple-tier security arrangement comprising the Army, para-military forces and the Jammu and Kashmir Police for the Amarnath pilgrimage.
Sources said that while review of Amarnath yatra arrangements and post- ceasefire situation in valley was prime focus, but the MHA also review summer strategy of the security forces and security situation in the hinterland.
According to sources, situation along the International Border (IB) was also come up for the review. “The MHA also discussed the certain measures initiated for the safety and security of the people living close the border,” sources maintained.
Meanwhile according to sources Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is visiting Jammu and Kashmir in coming week.
Sources said that the Home Minister is likely to hold security meeting with top officials of the police and other security forces in Jammu and Kashmir besides he is meeting the top brass of the state government.
Sources said that the home minister will take a review of ceasefire announced earlier by him and then accordingly it will be decided whether to continue the ceasefire till Amarnath Yatra or not. (KNS)
