Srinagar, Jun 01 : There is no need to panic as the summer season in this year will be quite normal, Director Meteorological (MeT) department, Sonum Lotus said.
Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Lotus said that the Jammu and Kashmir will witness heavy rains in the monsoon months but there won’t be any catastrophic situation. “We are predicting heavy rains in this season but overall it is expected that the summer will be normal,” he said.
Earlier, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted that Jammu and Kashmir will get the highest overall rainfall during the June-September period and July will be the wettest month.
According to the IMD, the north-west India — Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Delhi and western Uttar pradesh — will get the highest overall rainfall during the June-September period and July will be the wettest month, reports had said.
Lotus said that there is no need to panic as the MeT Centre J&K of IMD under the supervision of NWFC and RWFC is closely monitoring the system. “We issue official advisory or warnings only when situation warrants so,” he added.
Asked about the prediction, he said that there is possibility of heavy rains in the Monsoon season but not continuous heavy rain. (KNS)
