Students clash with police in Zainakote, Pulwama

SRINAGAR: Clashes erupted between students and police in Zainakote area of Srinagar after army men resorted to aerial firing to disperse students who had blocked traffic on Srinagar-Baramulla highway to protests the highhandedness of security forces with the students in recent past.

The students of Government Higher Secondary school Zainakote marched out of the campus and staged a demonstration on the adjacent highway. The students hurled stones on security forces, responded by tear gas shelling by the police. There was no immediate report of any injuries.

In Pulwama the students of Government Higher Secondary school Newa clashed with police to protest against the students arrests. Reports said that the students were joined by local youth after they marched out of the campus.

The forces deployed in the area used tear gas shells after the protesters hurled stones at them.
