Congress a history-sheeter party: Naqvi

Lucknow, Jun 26  : Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Tuesday attacked the Congress for still going through the feudal mentality and termed it a history-sheeter party for clamping Emergency in the country.

“The country suffered Emergency thrice– twice during the 1961 and 1971 wars and in 1975. Congress crushed the democratic rights of the people for their own vested interest,” he said.
Advocating for Emergency chapter in the text books, Mr Naqvi said the students should know what happened in 1975 and who are responsible for it.

“Those who have not seen Emergency, they will have to know what happened, what is dictatorship, how the people were harassed and torture of the politicians and how the Constitution was crushed to save Indira Gandhi,” he said.

The Union Minister while addressing a function on the occasion of the 43rd Emergency anniversary organised by the BJP here on Tuesday, supported the demand of the ‘Loktrantrik Senani’ (those who went to jail during Emergency) to give them more government facilities.

UP BJP president Mahendra Nath Pandey said to meet the vested interest, Emergency was clamped in the country. He said due to Emergency several families were destroyed and the politicians were insulted.

Mr Pandey, who is himself a ‘Loktrantrik Senani’, said he too had to face several hardship during Emergency and even went to jail.

Senior BJP leader Lalji Tandon said he was an eyewitness to the torture made on the politicians during the Emergency.

In the function, several Loktrantrik Senanis were honoured by the Union Minister.
