Mehbooba asks people to introspect

Srinagar:  In the back drop of killing of a young Kashmiri Army officer, policemen and bank two employees by militants during the last over three weeks in the valley,  Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti called for introspection and asked people if this was the way forward for the resolution of Kashmir issue.

“It is tragic that the people who on one hand raise Kashmir issue are on the hand killing Kashmiri people, particularly the ones who work very hard to achieve success in their lives, like Lieutenant Umar Fayaz Parray, a young Kashmiri Army officer, who was martyred by militants,” Ms Mehbooba told reporters here today.

The Chief Minister said that Lt Umar became an Army officer at a very young age, but he was murdered ruthlessly within seconds.

She said similarly, policemen and bank employees were killed by militants earlier.

Ms Mehbooba said it is time for the people of Kashmir to introspect and answer if this is the way forward for the resolution of Kashmir issue. “Is killing our boys and looting banks and weapons the way forward,” she asked.

The Chief Minister said what was more painful to note is that the young officer had come home on vacation where he was attending the marriage of his cousin.

Ms Mehbooba also conveyed her heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family of Lt Umar and prayed for his eternal solace.

Kashmir valley has witnessed an increase of many folds in militant attacks, besides sprung in protests, mostly by students during the last over three weeks.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir S J Gillani during a press conference on Monday said that 95 Kashmir youth have joined militancy during the last one year in the valley, where 200 militants are active currently.
