Loot of green gold is rampant in Kangan; ‘97.3 feet illegal timber seized’

Ganderbal:- The continuous loot of green gold timber by smugglers in different forest ranges of Valley, where Kangan area is on top during winter as well in Summer.
However, the forest officials claim that they have been doing enough to save forests from smugglers, the loot of green gold is rampant in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
As per the sources the forest Protection Force Ganderbal seized 97.4-ft illicit timber (Deodar) at forest area of Najwan Kangan in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
Deputy Director Forest Protection Force Ganderbal, Jawad ul Hassan in media reports said that we have seized illegal 97.247 feet (Deodar) timber in forest compartment no 1 Sindh Range in Najwan Akhal area of Ganderbal district.
“We are investigating the matter, we have launched a haunt to nab the culprits, though no arrests have been made so far, he said.
He added Whenever we get such complaints we take the cognizance and act on it, but we want people should support us to control this growing menace.
Meanwhile locals alleged that the loot of green gold is rampant in kangan area of Ganderbal Forest division.
They claimed that the higher ups in forest department have failed to act against the erring officers involved in chopping down green trees.
The smugglers fell green trees, particularly during night hours, and sometimes even in the broad daylight, and ferry the timber for sale in the adjoining villages.
They added this is high time that Government of Jammu and Kashmir should take serious action against those who are being found in smuggling of green gold.
