NC lawmaker Ganderbal warns against any tinkering with Art 35A.

Ganderbal 04 Aug 2018:   Jammu & Kashmir National Conference today staged a Protest against the legal challenge to Article 35A of the Constitution — which grants special status to the permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir here in Ganderbal today.

According to a statement, the National Conference (NC)  workers and party activists of the district, lead by their District President and law maker Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar While chanting pro-Article 35A and pro-kashmir slogans, took out a march from  party headquarter Ganderbal to Beehama Chowk Ganderbal  against tinkering with Article 35A of the Constitution that guarantees special privileges to Jammu and Kashmir.

The NC lawmaker said that Article 35A is a bridge between the state and the union of India. He said any tinkering with Article 35A will be disastrous.

“Today people cutting across party lines and other affiliations are united in their fight against any dilution of Article 35A.He said Article 35A would have to be safeguarded and strengthened. He cautioned the centre against any ‘misadventure’ in this regard.”

“The constitutional provision protecting the state subject laws guaranteed under Article 35A, read with Article 370, is a permanent law which cannot be diluted. In case any adverse decision is announced, there may be a largescale uprising, which will be fraught with serious consequences and both state and Centre will be fully responsible,” the NC  district president said.

Article 35A, which was incorporated in the Constitution by a 1954 Presidential Order, accords special rights and privileges to the Jammu and Kashmir citizens and denies property rights to a woman who marries a person from outside the state.
