Srinagar, Aug 5: The authorities have suspended movement of all vehicles carrying Amarnath pilgrims on the National Highway, the only all-weather road connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, on Sunday for security reasons following two-day strike called by separatists against ploys to abrogate Article 35-A.
The Supreme Court (SC) will hear on Monday (August 6) a number of writ petitions challenging Article 35 A, which empowers the Jammu and Kashmir state’s legislature to define “permanent residents” of the state. The Article provides special rights and privileges to those permanent residents.
No fresh pilgrim was allowed to move towards Kashmir from Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, camp following instructions by the authorities, official sources told UNI.
There is also an advisory not to allow any vehicle of pilgrims, they said.
Similarly, pilgrims, who were scheduled to travel from Baltal base camp in central Kashmir to Jammu on Sunday have also been stopped at Manigam camp.
No pilgrim was also allowed to leave Nunwan Pahalgam base camp for Jammu for security reasons, they added.
However, sources said the pilgrims are being provided all the facilities at these camps and will be allowed to leave for Jammu as and when a green signal is received.
