Plea seeking total impunity under AFSPA is confession of guilt: Er. Rasheed
SRINAGAR: Reacting sharply to plea filed in Supreme Court by Army Jawans seeking complete impunity while working in areas under AFSPA, AIP President Er. Rasheed has said that the plea is a confession of guilt defeat.
While talking to media on the sidelines of interaction at Chidder Kulgam today Er. Rasheed said “Seeking total impunity is an open confession of guilt by Army and ample evidence that Army has crossed the red line in J&K and north east. Who doesn’t know that army has been given license and free hand to kill Kashmiris, humiliate them and bulldoze their self respect in Kashmir and other areas, however if army seeks more impunity to the extent that they don’t want even lodging FIR against their highhandedness including rapes and cold blooded murders, it speaks volumes about the frustration among men in uniform.
Seeking shelter using ASPFA as a shield to justify atrocities is condemnable and evident proof that not only army but the entire Indian state has failed to win hearts and minds of people in the areas being called disturbed areas, few of which are otherwise disputed areas. Army must introspect at the top level why does it need AFSA to maintain and manage its control in areas like J&K with the help of AFSPA.
Let there be no confusion that in any civilized country or society there is no place for draconian and inhuman laws like AFSPA and calling AFSPA the holy book is insult to Indian constitution itself”. Er. Rasheed while lashing out at state police asked local cops to respect the sentiments and self-respect of youth and restrain from using muscle power to provoke youth in Kashmir towards violence.
Er. Rasheed reiterated that there is no shortcut to resolution of J&K dispute except giving Kashmiris on both the sides of LOC right to Self determination.
