NIA questions Nayeem, Farooq, no summon to Geelani

Srinagar: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has grilled National Front (NF) chief Nayeem Ahmad Khan and another separatist leader Farooq Ahmad Dar in connection with cases registered against them for receiving money from Pakistan for subversive activities in Kashmir, where the graph of militant activities and stone pelting has witnessed surge during the past few months.

However, chairman of the hardline Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani and another leader Gazi Javed Baba, also named in the case, have not been served any notice or summon.

Yes I was questioned by four-member NIA team in my Jawahar Nagar office, Mr Khan, who was suspended from hardline HC yesterday after the sting operation, told UNI.

He said a summon was issued to him on Friday to appear before the NIA team in their office.

“ I did not go to office of NIA and yesterday I got a telephone again but I declined”, he said adding later the NIA team agreed to question me in my office.

Mr Khan said four members of NIA asked me questions about the sting operation by a New Delhi based Television Channel and an old case. Since there was nothing to hide I replied to their questions.

The NF chief has already rejected the sting operation and alleged “the agenda of Indian media is to defame the Kashmir struggle”.

He said TV channel has run a doctored video to defame him and challenged the channel to show full interview.

“The video was run in bits and pieces and everything taken out of context,” he alleged.

Khan, who as per video was admitting to have received money , said that Pakistan is a basic party to the Kashmir dispute and that the neighbouring country supports the Kashmir movement.

He said Dar was also question by the NIA team. I donot know other details, he said.

Meanwhile, no summon has been received from NIA by HC chairman Geelani, a spokesman of the amalgam Aiyaz Akbar said.

He said Mr Geelani remained under house arrest in his Hyderpora residence for the past one year. The amalgam chairman was also not even allowed to offer Friday and Eid prayers in mosque since his detention, Aiyaz said.

About questioning of Gazi has also not received any summon or phone from the NIA.

The NIA team arrived here on Friday to conduct Preliminary Enquiry (PE) and gather evidence collected by the Jammu and Kashmir Police about the burning of educational institutions in 2016 and student unrest this year.

The investigation agency’s PE alleged that the separatists were receiving funds from the Pakistan, particularly Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) chief Hafiz Saeed to carry out subversive activities in the Valley, including stone-throwing, damaging public property and burning schools and other government establishments.

The NIA registered case after sting operation show Nayeem Khan admitting to have received from Pakistan for subversive activities in Kashmir.
