New Delhi: Minister of State (MoS) Jitendra Singh today said that there is a systematic ongoing design in Kashmir to drown out pro-India sentiments. Speaking at an India Today event, he said that there are vested interests of some local activists involved to spread these sentiments in Kashmir. He added that they have learnt to play this kind of politics by other means. However, he added that these people are now getting unmasked, as they have done a lot of harm to their own people too because of their duplicity.
When asked about changing equations with Pakistan, since PM Narendra Modi invited his counterpart for his swearing-in on May 2014, the minister said that hard decisions are always taken after exhausting the soft options.
Praising the PM for his gesture to invite his Pakistani counterpart, Jitendra Singh said, “Here we had a prime minister, who decided to invite all heads of states from neighbouring countries. If some of these countries failed to respond to this, the onus lies with them. this outreach had helped India increase its stature across the globe, but if a certain country decides to live in a state of denial on problems of its own making, then again the onus is on that nation”, he was quoted to have said by India Today.
“The Government has exhausted all means of civility, now it is going for hard options”, the minister was further quoted to have said by the channel.
Jitendra Singh, when asked to comment on Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram’s concern that India was losing Kashmir, said, “He had ample opportunity to address this issue when he was the home minister of the country. Since he could not do so, it is our baggage now”.
The minister further said that India was not losing Kashmir emotionally but, it has come much more closer to us. The example of Lieutenant Ummer Fayaz (Officer of Rajput Rifles, who was abducted and killed recently in Shopian), is one such example, he added.
