Three militants reported killed during encounter, train service suspended

Srinagar: Three militants have been killed in Chowgam area of Qazigund during a night long encounter. The operation is still going on with two more militants beleived to be trapped at the encounter site, police sources said.

Reports said that a gunfight broke out between Government forces and militants at Chowgam area of Qazigund in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district late Friday night.

Official sources said that a joint team of army and SOG launched a cordon-and-search operation at Chowgam village following specific inputs about the presence of some militants.

As such the joint team of forces intensified the searches and fired some warning shots towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire triggering off an gunfight.

Police sources said that the encounter is still raging in the area with intense firing been witnessed from both the sides.

Meanwhile, authorities have suspended the Banihal-Baramulla train service for the day. (Agencies)
