Maryland shooting: At least three people killed at Rite Aid centre
At least three people were killed in a shooting at a distribution centre owned by a drugstore chain in northeast Maryland, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press on Thursday. The official stressed that the number is based on preliminary information.
Confirming the shooting, Harford County sheriff office said one suspect has been taken into custody. “At 9:06am a report was received for shots fired at the Rite Aid distribution centre. Assets were on scene within 5 mins. HCSO is still in the preliminary stages of this investigation. One suspect is in custody at this time,” the Harford County sheriff office said.
The suspect, who is yet to be identified, is in critical condition at the hospital.
Governor of Maryland, Larry Hogan tweeted: “We are closely monitoring the horrific shooting in Aberdeen. Our prayers are with all those impacted, including our first responders. The State stands ready to offer any support.”
The motive behind the shooting is still unknown. The attack came nearly three months after a man armed with a shotgun attacked a newspaper office in Annapolis, Maryland, killing five staff members.
Susan Henderson, spokesman for the drugstore chain Rite Aid, said the shooting happened on the campus of a company distribution center in Aberdeen. She described it as a support facility adjacent to a larger building.
