Clashes during CASO in Shopian
Srinagar 22 Sep: Clashes broke out between the government forces and residents of Shopian district in south Kashmir after forces launched a cordon-and-search-operation in the area.
Reports said that during the exercise of the door to door search in Shirmal village of the district, scores of the locals started pelting government forces with stone. While some reports suggest that many residents have received minor injuries during the clashes, however, they all are said to be stable now.
Earlier, almost ten villages of the district that include Lassipora, Armula, Alaipora, Batnoor, Garbug, Naupora Paeen, Hajdar Pora and Acchan, were under CASO. However, it was not immediately known if the operation was launched on the basis of inputs about the militants or a daily routine exercise.
Pertinently, three policemen were abducted and then killed in two villages of the district by suspected militants on Friday.
