Anger in BJP cadre over ticket denial
Jammu: Candidates denied ticket by the BJP for the urban local bodies elections have claimed that the party’s non-performance when it was in power would give it a severe blow in the elections.
“After it came to power in 2015, the BJP has been sidelining its front-runner candidates in various fields and promoting only rich people and their kin. People have understood the party’s dirty game and will lead to its debacle,” alleged Darshana Bandral of Ward No. 38, Janipur, Jammu West constituency, who has filed her candidature independently.
She alleged that the BJP had denied her a ticket and chosen a turncoat as a candidate, who had deserted the party twice and was putting up in the ward on a rental basis.
Sonia Gupta of Ward No. 50, Channi Himmat, Gandhinagar constituency, who had threatened self-immolation if denied a ticket by the BJP, said: “I had decided to take the extreme step, but Ashok Koul, BJP secretary organisation, promised me that the issue will be reviewed and he will take cognisance of the matter.” Sonia has, however, not been given a ticket by the party so far.
State BJP Mahila Morcha president Rajni Sethi, who had led protesting women candidates to list their grievances with state BJP chief Ravinder Raina, said:“I do not see any likelihood of a change at this moment.”
Secretary organisation, BJP, Ashok Koul said he had been receiving such complaints, but denied any favouritism. “We have more than one competent ticket seeker in all 75 wards. Ultimately, only one had to be chosen. I have received complaints and we hope that we are able to review the list,” said Koul.
He said as the last date of withdrawal of names of candidates was September 28, some changes could be made.
