Sabzar laid to rest, seven back to back funeral offered

SRINAGAR: Thousands of people on Sunday participated in the funeral prayers of slain Hizb-ul-Mujahideen commander Sabzar Ahmad Bhat at his native Rathsuna village of Tral township of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Despite restrictions and heavy deployment of government forces, people from different areas of the district made their way into the village after taking detours to participate in the last rites of Bhat who was a close associate of charismatic militant commander Burhan Wani.

“Because of the rush of the people, the funeral prayers of Sabzar were held at least seven times,” said a local, who wished anonymity.

Bhat was laid to rest amid pro-freedom slogans at the Martyrs’ graveyard near Jamia Masjid in Rathsuna village at around 10 am.
