Woman among 30 injured in clashes amid CASO in Kulgam, Shopian
Srinagar, Oct 27 : At least thirty people on Saturday were injured in protests during two separate cordon and search operations (CASOs) in the twin districts of Kulgam and Shopian in south Kashmir.
Reports reaching Global News Service (GNS) said that army, police and CRPF this afternoon cordoned off DK Pora village in Shopian and started a search operation amid intelligence inputs over the presence of militants in the village. When the joint team started door to door searches, scores of men, women and came out of their houses and staged a protest against the operation.
Reports said that villagers hurled stones at the government forces to express their anger over the conduct of search operation. In retaliation, the government forces burst tear smoke shells and fired pellets.
In the clashes that continued for several hours, ten people were injured. Among them, one woman identified as Sundri Begum was hit by pellets in the left eye. She was rushed to the hospital for treatment, reports said.
Earlier, massive protests broke out in Ghat Khudwani area of Kulgam when government forces placed the village under siege and started a search operation. The locals resisted the forces and fought ding-dong battles with them, reports said.
In the clashes that continued till evening, at least twenty people were injured. Three among the injured were hit by pellets and one with a bullet.
