Sania Mirza gives birth to baby boy

Tennis player Sania Mirza and Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik were blessed with a boy on Tuesday, it was confirmed by the new father on Twitter. “Excited to announce: It’s a boy, and my girl is doing great and keeping strong as usual #Alhumdulilah. Thank you for the wishes and Duas, we are humbled. #BabyMirzaMalik,” he wrote on Twitter.

It was confirmed by the Mirza camp that both the tennis player and the new born are doing fine.

“It’s a boyyyy!!!! Alhamduilllllaaahhhh!!! @mirzasaniar @realshoaibmalik #babymirzamalik 30.10.18 💓” wrote Sania’s sister Anam who had been with her throughout her pregnancy. Filmmaker Farah Khan was also among the wellwishers to congratulate the couple. She wrote in an Instagram post, “Finally!! Best news in a long time!! Congratulations @mirzasaniar@realshoaibmalik @anammirzaaa@imranmirza58 n of course the nani n daadi God bless our lil angel”

Mirza, who took a break after undergoing surgery has not played this year and later confirmed a lengthier time out after confirming the news of her pregnancy. She has clarified that she is aiming to be back on court for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Mirza had made the announcement in April in a unique manner. In her announcement, Sania used an illustration of closets while making it different for a boy and a girl. She captioned the photo “#BabyMirzaMalik”.

In a recent interview, Sania had said that she will keep their child’s name as “Mirza Malik”. “Today I will tell you a secret. My husband and I have spoken about it and we have decided that whenever we have a child, the child will have Mirza-Malik as a surname and not just Malik. So that’s where we stand as a family including my husband. He actually wants a daughter,” Sania had said.
