Srinagar-Leh highway remains closed due to snowfall
Srinagar, Nov 2: The 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway, connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir, remained closed for the second day on Friday due to snowfall, a traffic police official said.
Traffic remained suspended on the highway due to several inches of fresh snowfall at Zojila pass, Meenmarg, Sonamarg and Zero point, he told UNI.
It was still snowing this morning due which to road has become very slippery, he said, adding that the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is already on the job to put through the highway. However, traffic will be resumed only after weather and road condition improves.
There is also forecast for fresh rain and snow at several places on the highway during the next 24 hours.
Large number of Ladakh-bound vehicles, particularly trucks carrying essential commodities and oil tankers, have been stopped at Sonamarg in central Kashmir district of Ganderbal since yesterday.
Similarly, Kashmir-bound empty trucks and oil tankers are stranded at several places, including Drass, Kargil and Meenmarg.
