Sopore militant killed in Budgam laid to rest
Mehraj was killed with top Lashkar commander Naveed Jatt in a gunfight with government forces in Chattergam area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Wednesday.
Reports said amid pro-freedom, pro-Pakistan and anti-India slogans the slain militant Mehraj’s funeral was held at Iqbal Market Sopore.
Earlier police in a statement said that Mehraj was an Over Ground Worker who was arrested in October this year and later gave slip and escaped for Police Station and formally joined militant ranks.
Meanwhile, clashes erupted between protesters and the government forces deployed in the area shortly after the culmination of last rites of the Mehraj.
The curfew-like restrictions have been imposed in Sopore town while mobile internet service has been suspended amid fears of widespread protests against the militant’s killing.
