Coordination Committee asks secretariat employees to defer strike for a week

Jammu, Jan 2:  Government on Wednesday ordered that the Administrative Secretary, Department of Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs shall hold the charge of the post of Secretary, J&K Legislative Assembly in addition to his own duties till the post is filled up on regular basis.

Secretary, J&K Legislative Assembly, Rattan Lal Sharma, retired on 31 December 2018.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Coordination Committee headed by its chairman G R Mir, Maqbool Hussain, president Lower Grade Employees Union and Mukhtar Ahmad, president J&K Legislative Assembly Secretariat Employees Union, called on the Secretary to Government, Department of law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs who is presently holding the additional charge of Secretary Assembly.

The Coordination Committee was accompanied by other members.

Since the employees of the Assembly Secretariat are on protest since 24 December 2018 in support of their core issue including: the entrusting of the charge of Secretary Legislative Assembly to the senior-most officer of the Assembly Secretariat as per the precedence prevailing in the constitutional institution to upload its constitutional character, and to affect the pending overdue promotions of the employees of Assembly Secretariat.

The above-said issues were discussed threadbare with the Secretary Law who assured that the issues will be resolved amicably, and subsequently the Coordination Committee accorded a week’s time to the government for the same and decided to defer the strike for one week.

In case the demands are not fulfilled within the stipulated time of one week, the Coordination Committee will decide about the future programme of the strike, it said in a statement. Till then, the employees of the Assembly Secretariat are requested to resume their official work and be united.
