Shutdown in Pakherpora on Master Shakeel’s anniversary
Srinagar, Jan 15: Amid complete shutdown, the 5th death anniversary of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) commander was observed in Pakherpora area of Budgam in central Kashmir on Tuesday.
Reports reaching GNS said scores of people visited the residence of slain JeM commander Master Shakeel Ahmad Wani who along with four other militants was killed in an encounter with government forces on January 15, 2015 near Kellar forests in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
The people from neighbouring villages were also seen thronging the residence since Monday to offer condolences to Wani’s family and relatives.
The residents of Pahkerpora and several adjoining areas observed a complete shutdown in memory of Master Shakeel. The shops and business establishments remained shut while traffic and other activities remained suspended in the area for the day.
Before joining militant ranks, Shakeel was working as a journalist and cameraperson with Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar. He was later appointed as teacher in the education department.
