Traffic was suspended on Srinagar-Jammu highway on Tuesday after a snow avalanche blocked Jawahar Tunnel in Qazigund are of south Kashmir, officials said.
An official said that the avalanche has blocked the both tubes of the tunnel from Qazigund side, forcing the authorities to suspend the traffic movement on the highway.
He said that a rescue operation has been launched in the area. There was no immediate report of any loss of life or injuries.
The area has been witnessing heavy snowfall from past several days
