Srinagar-Jammu highway closed for traffic tomorrow following fresh snowfall, landslides

Srinagar: The Srinagar-Jammu highway will be closed for traffic tomorrow as fresh snowfall blocked the road.

A traffic department spokesperson said that rainfall in Banihal- Ramban stretch has also lead to landslide/shooting stones at many places like Anokhi fall, Kela Mode and Panthal.

In view of the inclement weather as well as present road conditions, the stranded passengers are advised not to travel on highway especially between Ramban to Qazigund. “The stranded vehicles would be allowed to proceed towards their destinations once the road is cleared,” it said and added “People are further advised to start their journey on highway only after confirming status of the road”.

Meanwhile, the traffic department said in view of the rain/snow in plains and other towns, roads have become slippery and as such general public is advised take necessary precautions so as to avoid accidents and unnecessary road congestions.
