Geelani condemns arrest of 9 youth in Pulwama

Srinagar, Feb 6: (GNS) Paying tributes to militants killed in Pulwama encounter, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Wednesday said: “these brave youth are sacrificing their today for the freedom of our land”.

In a statement issued to GNS, Geelani also condemned arrest of nine youth during overnight raids in two villages Arigam and Arihal of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

“New Delhi through its forces has crossed all the limits of barbarism and savagery in Kashmir as killings, arresting, torturing and detaining people regardless of age and gender has become its routine ploy to make the people surrender before Indian might,” he said.

He said, “India will never succeed in its nefarious designs in diluting and crushing the sentiment of freedom and ongoing movement for inalienable right to self-determination as Kashmiri people are determined to continue the ongoing sacred movement of the martyrs till it reaches the logical conclusion and will never allow these supreme sacrifices go waste”.

He also expressed his grave concern over the “rampant use of oppressive and suppressive measures” by forces and SOG during the cordon and search operations in villages of Pulwama wherein 9 youth have been detained.

“During the cordon and search operations in Arigam and Arihal villages of Pulwama, people were forced to stay outside their homes at night. Living under the shadow of a war like situation has created panic and an agonized atmosphere in almost all the villages of south Kashmir,” he said.

Meanwhile, Geelani has condoled the demise of Gh. Hassan Zahid, elder brother of prominent columnist and renowned scholar Z G Mohammad, Khawaja Mohammad Subhan, the father of chief editor KNS Mohammad Aslam Bhat and Moulana Qazi Gh. Nabi Imam and Khateeb of Jamia Masjid Kishtwar.

We share the grief with bereaved families and pray for eternal peace of deceased and courage to the family to bear the painful loss, he said.
