US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has told NSA Ajit Doval that US supports India’s decision to take action against JeM militant camps in Pakistan, reported ANI quoting sources.
This comes amid heightened tension between India and Pakistan after India confirmed on Wednesday, 27 February, that the “missing Indian Air Force(IAF) pilot” was under Pakistan custody and that the government expected his immediate and safe return.
The Ministry of External Affairs lodged a strong protest with the acting High Commissioner of Pakistan against unprovoked act of aggression by Pakistan against India.
Earlier in the day, in a joint press briefing, the MEA and the Indian Air Force said that India lost one MiG-21 and shot down a Pakistan fighter aircraft. The ministry, at that time, confirmed that one IAF pilot was “missing in action”.
Pakistan Armed Forces spokesperson Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor backtracked on his earlier claim and said that only one pilot of the Indian Air Force was under their custody.
