BJP concedes defeat, Manoj Tiwari says results do not fulfill expectations
New Delhi, Feb 11 : Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Manoj Tiwari on Tuesday acknowledged party’s crushing defeat in the assembly elections and said that the results do not live up to their expectations.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has once again repeated the stupendous performance of 2015 grabbing more than 60 seats in the elections.
“I accept the mandate, we could not do well, the party will evaluate the election results. Many times when the results do not come as per our expectations, we get frustrated but I want to say that BJP workers need not be sad. Our win percentage has increased compared to the 2015 election.” Mr Tiwari said while addressing the media after the picture of the Delhi polls was clear.
He thanked the people of Delhi and said that party workers worked hard for the election. “The workers did a good job”, he said.
BJP president JP Nadda congratulated the AAP for their performance in Delhi assembly polls and said that his party will play the role of constructive opposition and will prominently raise every issue related to the development of the state.
”Accepting this mandate, BJP will play the role of constructive opposition and will prominently raise every issue related to the development of the state. With the belief that the Aam Aadmi Party government will develop Delhi, I congratulate Mr Arvind Kejriwal and his party,” Mr Nadda said in his tweet.
He said the BJP respected the mandate given by the people of Delhi.
”All the workers worked tirelessly in this election and have been engaged in elections day and night. Heartfelt greetings and thanks to all the workers,” he said.
Earlier, Mr Nadda paid tributes to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, the founder of Jana Sangh on his death anniversary.
He described Upadhyay as ”source of inspiration for all of us, who gave a vision of Antyodaya and integral humanism to the country”.
The BJP president garlanded his statue and paid homage to him.
As the counting of votes for Delhi assembly polls picked up, trends reflect a clear win for the ruling Aam Aadmi Party. Chief minister Kejriwal-led party is leading in 59 seats and running in the second spot is BJP with lead in 11 seats. The Congress, which drew a blank the last time, was nowhere in early leads.
