Srinagar, Mar 1,: From past couple of days, Jammu Kashmir Police have arrested at least five citizens from Punjab for exporting drugs from Kashmir there. Sources said that a large number of drug addicts and smugglers from outside states are active in Kashmir Valley. Sources added that mostly these outside drug peddlers are truck drivers that arrive in Valley with goods laden trucks.
A police official told Kashmir News Trust that they arrested three residents of Punjab near Lower Munda while they were carrying drugs while on way to Punjab from Kashmir. He identified them as Prakash Singh, Jagbir Singh and Kulwant Singh.
Police also arrested a duo from Punjab on Srinagar-Jammu Highway and retrieved drugs from them. They were also moving towards from Punjab. Police identified them as Darshan Singh and Ranjeet Singh.
Meanwhile, a police official said that the Punjab-bound truck was intercepted at T-Chowk in Banihal on Jammu-Srinagar highway, leading to recovery of the huge quantity of contraband. He added that the driver, identified as Baljeet Kumar of Nowshera village in Punjab, was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Two men, Masheer-ul-Haq of Ramsoo and Anayat Javid from Pulwama were held with contraband in Banihal area, the official said.
He said that Haq was carrying 100 grams of charas and a large quantity of banned Diazepam and Tramadol injections were recovered from Javid. The official said that the two were also booked under the NDPS Act. (KNT)
