No relief for people living in cutoff border areas in north Kashmir
Srinagar, Mar 13 (UNI) There is no relief for people living in cutoff border towns of Keran, Machil and dozens of far flung and remote villages, including those near the Line of Control (LoC), as the snow clearance operation is yet to start to restore traffic to these areas in north Kashmir.
Traffic to these roads remained cut off for the eight successive day on Friday in north Kashmir due to slippery roads conditions and accumulation of snow.
Meanwhile, the road connecting Bandipora with border town of Gurez, which is surrounded by Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) from three sides, remained closed for the past about three months due to accumulation of snow, particularly at Razdan pass.
“Traffic remained suspended to dozens of far flung and remote villages, including Keran and Machil, due to slippery road conditions following light to moderate intermittent snow last week,” an official of Police Control Room (PCR), Kupwara, told UNI over phone on Friday.
He said border town of Kernah continued to remain cutoff for the nine successive day on Friday. “On March 5, traffic to the border town and its adjoining areas was suspended as a precautionary measure in view of prediction of snowfall,” he added.
He said the snow clearance operation has not started yet to restore traffic to these areas. “The operation to restore traffic to these areas will be started only after improvement in the weather,” he added.
Official sources told UNI that snow clearance operation to put through traffic to border town of Gurez was suspended due to fresh snow and rain.
Razdan pass, connecting Gurez, Neeru and dozens of other areas near LoC with district headquarters Bandipora, remained closed from last about three months due to accumulation of snow and fresh snowfall. There was also fresh snowfall at Razdan pass which connects border town of Gurez, Neeru and other border villages with Bandipora last week, affecting snow clearance operations.
