Srinagar, May 7: Asserting that the recent COVID-19 cases in Srinagar could have been avoided, Deputy Commissioner Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said that most of these cases have been traced to single illegal travel.
Please don’t make fatal mockery of our efforts for your safety, he said.
As many as 18 people were tested positive for Coronavirus in the first three days of this week. Three COVID-19 positive cases were recorded on Monday, four on Tuesday and 11 on Wednesday, taking the total number of infected people in Srinagar to 124. Of these, 45 are active positive cases and 76 patients have recovered and three have died so far.
“Each Covid+ve case confirmed in Srinagar today & yesterday could’ve been avoided. Most traced to single illegal travel. Please don’t make fatal mockery of our efforts for your safety,” Dr Choudhary wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
The DC Srinagar said that to curtail the spread of COVID-19, lockdown is the basic principle adopted across the world. “There are multiple ideas behind this lockdown. Primarily, it is to buy some time so that the infrastructure required to combat COVID-19 has been put in place… so tomorrow if the outbreak increase we will have hospital facilities, wellness centere and all response mechanism already in place,” he said.
He said secondly it also important so that there is no public gathering which could lead to rapid increase in the infection.
