SRINAGAR: Expressing grave concern over the deteriorating Condition of the Dal Lake Sheikh Aamir Rasool State General Secretary J&K Youth Congress and Executive Member JKPCC today alleged that Mehbooba govt was doing little to preserve Dal Lake at the time it was talking of promoting tourism .
Sheikh Aamir Rasool said Dal Lake once considered to be the most popular tourist spot is under serious environmental threat . There is an overwhelming growth of parasitic weeds and Mehbooba Government has left it completely ignored and unattended .
Aamir Rasool further alleged that Dal Lake has virtually lost a tremendous portion .The water quality has also deteriorated due to intense pollution caused by untreated sewage and solid waste that is fed into the lake from the peripheral areas .He said government’s failure to check encroachment of water channels and consequent clogging has diminished the circulation and inflows into the lake ,so with building of phosphates and nitrogen this has led to extensive weed growth leaving serious consequences on the diversity of the lake . He said The condition to which the Dal Lake has deteriorated cannot be reversed by cosmetic slow treatment but needed accelerated intense Time bound treatment to arrest the deterioration and reverse the same .
