India records highest single day spike of over 27k cases, COVID tally crosses 8 lakh
New Delhi, Jul 11: India on Saturday recorded the highest ever single day spike with 27,114 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, taking the country’s tally to 8,20,916.
According to the health ministry, fatalities due to the pandemic have surged past the 22k mark to stand at 22123 after 519 more lives were claimed by the virus since Friday.
However, on the brighter side, as many as 515385 patients have cured and discharged across the country since the outbreak of the pandemic.
At preset, the cases under active medical supervision in the country stand at 283407 , while the difference between the active cases and recoveries has been increasing day by day.
Meanwhile, a total of 1,13,07,002 samples have been tested for COVID as per the Indian Council of Medical Research till Friday.
The worst hit contagion state in the country, Maharashtra now houses 238461 confirmed cases, while the fatalities count of the state has increased to 9893.
Tamil Nadu, at number two, recorded 1130261 confirmed cases of contagion while the state’s death toll also mounted to 1829.
The National Capital Delhi was now home to 109140 cases, while the city’s death toll due to the pandemic has reached 3300.
Gujarat recorded a spike of 875 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, taking the number of infected to 40069, while the death toll in the state stood at 2022.
Uttar Pradesh’s Covid tally surged to 33700 after registering a sharp spike of 1338 cases in 24 hours. The fatalities in the northern state due to the pandemic have reached 889.
Karnataka was now home to 33418 infections and had witnessed 543 fatalities since the outbreak of the pandemic.
Telangana, also registered a sharp rise in cases with 1278 new infections since Friday taking the tally to 32224, while the state’s death toll stood at 339.
West Bengal’s tally surged to 27109, while 880 have lost their lives due to the virus in the state.
Andhra Pradesh’s tally has climbed to 25422, while 292 deaths were recorded so far.
The desert state of Rajasthan, at present was home to 23174 cases whereas 497 patients have lost their lives to the pandemic.
The coronavirus tally of Haryana touched 19934 cases and 290 fatalities have been recorded due to the same in the state.
Madhya Pradesh added 316 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, taking the count to 16657, while deaths at present stood at 638.
Assam’s tally reached 14600 with 27 deaths so far.
Bihar has recorded 631 fresh infections taking the total number of infected in the state to 14575 with 119 fatalities.
Odisha’s tally has reached 11956 , while 56 people have so far died due to the pandemic in the state.
Jammu and Kashmir’s COVID count has now reached 9888, while deaths due to the virus in the state have reached 159.
After a spike of 217 fresh infections since Friday , Punjab was home to 7357 confirmed cases , while the death toll in the northern state has now reached 187.
