DMRRR organises community disaster preparedness training
Srinagar: Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRRR) and J&K Tourism Department, in collaboration with State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Civil Defence (CD) and District Red Cross Society organised one day disaster preparedness training for members from community at Nigeen Club Srinagar today on 13th March 2017. More than 75 volunteers, including 15 women, belonging to different districts and professions, participated in the training.
The training was inaugurated by Director, Tourism Kashmir Mahmood Ahmed Shah, in presence of Director Disaster Management Aamir Ali, General Secretary J&K State Red Cross Society, Mohammed Shafi Rather, Commandant SDRF 1st Battalion, Bashir Ahmed Sofi. The participants were imparted training by Dr. GM Dar from IMPA, Dr IPS Bali from Red Cross, Abdul Gaffar and team from SDRF. The participants were imparted hands-on training in Search and Rescue, Fire-fighting and First Aid. A mock drill was also held on the occasion.
Meanwhile, training was held by the Power Development Department with support from Disaster Management, for lineman and workers of electric department. They were trained to adhere to safety measures while handling electric wires. The training was imparted by JE Electric Miss Zahida, under the supervision of AEE Firdous Ahmed Bhat. The training was held in the wake of the unfortunate incident, where one worker lost his life, while repairing HT line in Srinagar. The training of the electricians and workers will be conducted every Saturday in the PDD office at Bemina.
