Protests, clashes in parts of Kashmir against civilian killing
SRINAGAR: Clashes between security forces and protesters erupts after Friday prayers in different part of Kashmir valley amid shutdown and strict restrictions.
Reports said that clashes erupted in Anantnag, Sopore, Kupwara, Hajin when people tried to stage a protest against the killing of a young student in Shopian.
In Kupwara, clashes erupted in main town near Jamia Masjid after civilian protesters tried to take out a protest march against the killing of Shopian youth.
Reports said that after congregational Friday prayers people tried to take out a protest march, however, forces deployed in strength stopped them, triggering clashes. Reports also said that one SPO was injured in the clashes.
In Hajin area of north Kashmir, reports said that hundreds of youth assembled near Jamia Masjid Hajin after prayers and shouted anti-India and pro-freedom slogans.
The youth took out a protest march from Jamia Masjid area and also hurled stones on army good will school Hajin. Forces deployed in strength near army Good will School used tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters. This led to clashes between protesters and forces in the area.
In Anantnag, reports said that after the Friday prayers people marched towards Lalchowk from Reshi Bazar. The protesters resorted to stone pelting on the police and the paramilitary forces who were already deployed in strength. Forces fired teargas shells on the protesters which intensified the clashes, reports said.
In Sopore, Youth clashed with security forces in the town to protest the killing of a civilian in Shopian. Scores of youth took to streets after congregational Friday prayers and assembled near Markazi Jamia Masjid Sopore. The protesting youth were shouting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.
Forces resorted to tear smoke shelling as the protesters tried to march ahead, triggering clashes.
Pertinently, Hurriyat conference had called for shutdown and protests today against the killing of a youth Adil Farooq Magrey in firing by forces in Ganowpora village of Shopian earlier this week.
Meanwhile a complete shutdown was observed across Kashmir valley amid strict restrictions by the authorities in sensitive places.
