Burhan Wani represents the undying spirit of resistance, steadfastness and valor of Kashmiri nation: Yasin Malik

SRINAGAR:  Burhan Wani Shaheed represents the undying spirit of resistance, steadfastness and valor of Kashmiri nation. His struggle and sacrifice marks the continuity of the legacy left behind by great martyrs like Muhammad Maqbool Butt Shaheed and Ishfaq Majeed Wani.

This was stated by the incarcerated Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Muhammad Yasin Malik in a message sent out from central jail Srinagar where he is languishing from 3rd of July 2017.

Terming martyr Burhan Wani as a symbol of Kashmiri resistance against Indian military occupation and tyranny, JKLF chairman said that a budding young boy Burhan Wani was forced to tread the path of armed resistance by Indian forces and police who tortured him along with his brother Khalid, humiliated his family and pushed him to the wall.

He said that this young man and his brother were pursuing peaceful struggle against oppression but it was met with torture and humiliation, which left Burhan Wani and many others like him no choice but to join the armed struggle and challenge Indian colonial occupation. JKLF Chairman said that the story of martyr Burhan Wani and many others is a repeat of the story of those who pioneered the armed struggle in 1988.

He said that before 1988, youth like Shaheed-i- Kashmir, Ishfaq Majeed Wani initially waged a peaceful struggle against Indian occupation but police and other Indian agencies resorted to undemocratic and tyrannical acts against them. They were put in Red 16 type interrogation centers, tortured, humiliated along with their families, which forced them to take up arms.  He said that life and struggle of martyr Burhan ud Din  Wani in many ways resembles that of martyr Ishfaq Majeed Wani as Ishfaq pioneered the historical revolution in early 90’s and Burhan reinvigorated and continued it with full force and passion post 2010.

JKLF Chairman said that in 2008 and 2010 people of Jammu Kashmir transformed their struggle and changed its armed outlook to a non-violent outlook. Millions of Kashmiris came on roads, demanding their birth right peacefully but India used its brutal force and military might to crush the people’s resistance. The brutal military machine killed 75 Kashmiris in 2008, 45 in 2009,128 in 2010 and around 150 in 2016. In addition, Indian forces unleashed a reign of terror in Kashmir in 2016, injuring more than 15000 youth and partially or fully blinding hundreds.

The fascist forces destroyed crops, orchards and other property worth billions and arrested thousands including men, women, and children during these years. Incarcerated JKLF Chief said that martyr Burhan Wani and many of his contemporary warriors were part of peaceful struggle in 2008 and 2010 but India crushed their peaceful movement by military might and international community safeguarding its business interests maintained a criminal silence on Indian oppression which forced these peace loving youth to change the means of their struggle.

Terming martyr Burhan Wani as a real Mujahid, a great patriot and a true bearer of the legacy left behind by father of the Kashmiri nation, Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Shaheed-I-Kashmir Ishfaq Majeed Wani, Yasin Malik said that Shaheed represents the resistance, resilience and valor of Kashmiri nation and his sacrifice marks the continuity of the legacy left behind by our great martyrs.

While paying rich tributes to all martyrs especially those who embraced martyrdom after Burhan Wani, JKLF chairman said that our hearts go out to those who lost their loved ones at the cruel hands of India oppression and those who were blinded or injured by Indian bullets pellets and shells. He said that a nation that has been giving birth to sons like Burhan Wani cannot be defeated by oppression, tyranny, false propaganda and other oppressive means. “Ours is a sacred struggle nourished by the pure blood of our martyrs and no worldly power on earth can defeat this people’s movement”, added JKLF chairman.

Emphasizing the need of strengthening the unity, JKLF chairman said that martyrs like Burhan Wani have united the nation of Kashmir and if we are able to safeguard our unity and oneness, success will surely be ours and that no oppression or suppression will be successful in breaking our will and passion for freedom.
