Tariq Karra accepted by SC as private party in 35A case, Hearing deferred by court after Diwali

Srinagar, Aug 25 : Senior Congress leader and former finance minister, Tariq Karra has been accepted a private party by the Supreme Court in the Article 35A case whose hearing was today deferred after Diwali festival by the apex court.
Karra has moved an application before Supreme Court to impaled him as a private party in the matter Article 35A.
“Yes, the plea has been accepted by the Honourable Supreme Court and I have been accepted as a private party into the case,” Karra told KNS.
The application filed by Karra through his lawyer, advocate Ashok Mathur, pleads before the court that the applicant is also a permanent resident and therefore, vitally interested in the issues being raised in the present writ petition in as much as the same affect his constitutional and legal rights.
“That the applicant is a public figure and hails from a family of illustrious persons who have been representing the residents of the State over the years. His uncle G.M. Sadiq has been the Chief Minister of the State. The applicant is one of the founding members of J&K People’s Democratic Party and was also the first General Secretary of J&K People’s Democratic Party. He was nominated as a member of the Upper House of J&K in the year 2003……It is stated that in the circumstances the applicant is vitally interested in the present proceedings and is therefore filing the present application for intervention in the matter which involves important legal and constitutional issues concerning the rights and obligations of the permanent residents of the State of Jammu and Kashmir. That it is in the interest of justice that the applicant may be permitted to intervene and assist this Hon’ble Court in the above proceedings,” the application mentions.
The Supreme Court today deferred the plea of hearing the case of Article 35A after the Diwali festival (which falls on October 19) when the State government through its counsels pleaded for the same.
Article 35A is becoming quite emotive in the state, with Hurriyat and mainstream parties having warned of mass agitation should it be abrogated by the apex court. (KNS)
