Washington, Jan 28 : The United States has expressed its deep concern over the detention of the Swedish citizen Gui Minhai in China on January 20 and has asked the Chinese authorities to explain the reasons and legal basis for his arrest and detention.
In a press statement here, Ms Heather Nauert, Department Spokesperson, said on Saturday that the Chinese authorities should not only explain the reasons and legal basis for Mr Gui’s arrest and detention, but also disclose his whereabouts, and allow him freedom of movement and the freedom to leave China.
