SC directs DCs to set up cells to look into sexual harassment complaints
New Delhi, May 11: The Supreme Court on Friday directed all the district courts in the country to set up sexual harassment complaints cells or committees within two months.
The three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra and also comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud, was hearing a petition in which a woman lawyer was allegedly assaulted by some lawyers in Tis Hazari Court when she went to the trial court to argue a case.
The top court also stayed the arrest of anybody till further hearing in the case.
The apex court directed all the state High Courts to see and ensure that committees in all district courts must be set up to deal with sexual harassment complaints.
The top court fixed July 5 as the next date of hearing when the SC will be apprised about the compliance reports to be submitted by the High Courts.
